the land
The finca Can Cabota consists of about 4 hectares of agricultural fields, surrounded by 40 hectares of wild mountainous forest. The crystal clear river Manol meanders in between. Can Cabota is home to wildlife such as wild boars, deer and many insects and birds. In addition, the forest offers a wealth of edible wild plants and mushrooms.
On the fields, we started an organic vegetable garden in 2020 and planted a food forest in 2022. The food forest is planted on a system of swales to collect the rainwater for the more than 100 trees. We will be expending this food forest with a regenerative keyline design the coming years.
Furthermore, the finca houses an abandoned farm that has not been in use for more than 80 years. We are building up these ruins one by one, using mainly materials from the land, like stones and wood.
The finca is located in the north-eastern corner of Catalunya in Spain. To the north we lie at the foot of the Pyrenees, to the east the Mediterranean coast, on the edge of the traditional agricultural delta of Catalonia. The pleasant medieval village of Lladò is 5 km away. We are a 25 minute ride from the city of Figueres (has a direct train connection to Paris), 50 minutes from Girona and 2 hours from Barcelona.
Furthermore, we are surrounded by the beautiful area of the Alt Emporda and Alta Garrotxa: a volcanic environment with beautiful gorges of wild rivers, rugged mountains, rolling hills and picturesque villages.
